Just tried that "new" sequencer that came out. Yup. Its the same old, same old. Just a fresh coat of makeup. Tried creating a sequence using the same # of controllers as I had under Spectrum - which caused it to jump and stutter on the timeline so badly, you couldn't get an accurate event marker placed. Same as it was before, Jump and stutter. And this was using a comp that is 3x as fast as the one used under Spectrum! The playback area is just as cluttered as Spectrum was, even more so now. I'd like to point out a few thing about LSP... (and Aurora)
1. LSP has a lot of good marketing verbiage on thier site for thier product. I noticed that LSP is considered "The best Computerized christmas light sequencing software available.", although I'm not sure where that poll was taken though since it's not out of beta yet.
2. I think that after Aurora 1.1 is finalised, a break in application development should be taken to increase to marketability of http://www.aurorashow.com - www.aurorashow.com . Making Aurora look like the advanced, stable product that it is. We're doing the same thing to our application, holding off on new stuff to increase it's marketability and visual appeal to members. Now, I'm not saying to fluff up Aurora and slow it down, lets just spiff up the site with some testamonials, a cleaner site, and more marketing material. Possibly even an unbiased comparison grid of some sort.
3. I find it very interesting that there IS NO COMPANY INFORMATION ANYWHERE about who actually makes the product. Even their DNS is registered by "Domains by Proxy, Inc." -- Just very odd.

LSP is the rejected Spec2 with all the warts intact and a few new ones as well. Guy didn't even have the modesty to change the basic front-end. Asked the developer a few hard-ball questions after stating anyone with a little sense knew it was Spec2 with a new name (will it save reliably, supercomputer needed, better support on trouble tickets, etc.) on the PC forums back in Sept.. He went off on a rant and had the thread deleted - and did not answer a single question. I think that in itself speaks volumes for the integrity of the product and producer.

I agree the web site needs work. I'm not the best marketing person on the planet... that is for certain! Feel free to post testimonials.
On another topic... anyone know a good SMTP smart host to have our SMTP server send/receive through? I've traced our email problems down to the Cisco PIX firewall not handling the outbound NAT properly, which makes our emails appear to be coming from the firewall address, not from the SMTP server external address. I've tried a dozen configuration adjustments and can't figure out why the firewall is messing up this one protocol (other protocols originate from the proper address just fine). Some ISPs (like AOL) don't like the email coming from the firewall IP as they can't get an RDNS match. My only choices are to figure out a working Cisco configuration or to run everything through a smart host. ------------- http://www.aurorashow.com/">

Remember when Darryl posted screen shots of 2.0 back in August.....My memory serves me right, I had seem that exact same screen before when I looked at LSP screenshots. I tried to look at his site, but it wasn't loading properly. Now I'm pretty firmly placed with Aurora, but I'm still curious about LSP. Does he have a demo posted somewhere for download? Remember, it wasn't that long ago a lot of folks were ooohing and aaahing at the screen shots of Spec 2. Do you have a single IP?
I don't think that we have anything configured outbound on our Cisco...
We ( http://www.NABOR.com - www.NABOR.com ) use our base .34 address for our MX record. Outbound all of traffic looks like it came from .34 as well. Well I went and checked it out, even though the name "Light Show Pro" leaves a lot to be desired. I kept an open mind, but I overall I must admit I was disappointed. I liked the graphics, I liked the wizard that lets you choose where files are kept (although I don't really know what the point of that wizard was since a user should just choose what folder to store sequences in when they save them). I didn't like not seeing my commands on the left side of the pane. I couldn't stand how it played that section of music back once I placed a command. I didn't like how all the commands were the exact same graphic on the grid (I think that was a bug). If that was what Spectrum 2 was going to be as Darryl envisioned it (and I don't think that program is how he envisioned it), then I am glad I made the switch to Aurora. However, after trying the software, I do believe I have a better understanding as to why Darryl decided to discontinue Spectrum 2's development. LSP might have a place among those who want to do this hobby without the hard work of sequencing just like Galaxia has a place among those who don't want a full blown animated display. I wish them well, but I think those already dedicated to this hobby will not be their main customer base. ------------- ~Jonathan |

okay... I can't hold back.
....wow... After 3 tries to get his site up....
I see that:
1. He's an MCSD... Take that as you will.
2. He does A LOT OF .net drag and drop with minimal _real_ programming.
3. Well... I see his other applications are all .net, so I'd guess those are drag/drop as well.
4. I'd probably say more if I could load a second page anywhere on his site.
Now, let me say that I could be compleately wrong, and that he could be sitting developing pure C in VI on his Gentoo box, and that I could be compleatly wrong. But, I have meet a number of programmers and there are gennerally two groups. Group A that Michael's in and group B that Mr. Johnson seems to be in.
That being said, I never like to see anything fail and hope that Mr. Johnson is able to have his sofware on the same level that the existing software is, and would like to see some of it's professional tools that it has.

| LOL, Contact me about a smart host. I might be able to help you on this if you are still having issues depending on how much email you are sending. AOL and comcast are both RDNS freaks and I have a hosting server that I could probably give you some space or bandwidth on. |
