Ok everyone... it's time for a nother Friday afternoon installment of Aurora updates. Friday is good... it lets me duck and hide for the weekend (just kidding):
http://www.aurorashow.com/downloads/aurora_1_0_32.zip - http://www.aurorashow.com/downloads/aurora_1_0_32.zip
Release notes (changes since 1.0.25):
1.0.32 ------
- Adds scheduler auto-start option to playback preferences
(old method of /start still works too but this is easier) - Adds default timeline marker check to sequence validation and creation - Adds compile progress indication - Fixes can't add channels/controllers under some circumstances - Fixes extra events can show on grid when there are empty channels - Fixes "file not saved" appears in form caption even after a successful file/save - Fixes invalid/corrupted draw objects can cause a crash during visualization - Fixes compile time too long - Fixes monitor resolutions greater than 2400 wide can generate overflow errors - Fixes default editor width of backed up workspace after new file creation should be 8 seconds instead of 0.3 milliseconds - Improves performance of audio drawing
One beta tester indicates that the problems with the play button becoming non functional still exists in this release. If you encounter this annoyance just File/Save, exit out, and then reenter Aurora.
Don't forget to reboot after installing Aurora updates.

If you are getting out of memory errors, fully uninstall Aurora from Control Panel Add/Remove Programs, reboot, reinstall 1.0.32, reboot, then start up Aurora.
All versions 1.0, 1.0.2, 1.0.25, 1.0.29, 1.0.32 can get this error and the only way to clear it is to fully uninstall and reinstall.

The only error I have had so far was a weird one. After importing and converting LOR files, after maybe 4 or 5 in arow, the program told me it had encountered an error due to too many files. Then it shut down. I reloaded the program and everything was back to normal. It had even saved the backup space.
Asside from that, it works like a charm for me. I installed it on my computer that plays the lightdisplay which still had version .2 on it. I made up a test schedule to make sure verything would play like it was intended and sure enough, it started without a hic. I looped about 5 times before I stopped it. Couldn't stand listening to the same 3 songs over and over!!!!!

I've been running 1.0.32 since Firday and don't have anything other than the stuck on decompiling that I've always had. Nothing new or worse.
Running fine here.

I'm running Windows Vista 32-bit SP1 with current updates on a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ180E with a Core 2 Duo T7300 at 2.0 GHz and 4 GB RAM (3.3 available). Graphics is NVidia GeForce 8400M GT.
I have installed 1.0.25 and 1.0.32, and both have the same problem for me.
I have a setup with MP3, DLS, and JPG that work on my XP desktop and XP on a Mac portable, but when I try to do a visualizer preview sequence with the JPG picture I get a white box in the middle of the black frame while playing back (no JPG image). If I draw figures on the black background they animate (superimposed over the white box) as expected.

hamma where you in CA?
Also resize your pic should take care of the issue. I forget what the size max is but go with a low quality and you should be all good. Try something under 1 meg

Instead of wondering, "Why isn't it working in Vista?", the question might very well be, "Why is it actually working in XP?" I'm not sure on Aurora's requirements for pictures, but a panoramic shot like that just seems to be begging for trouble. My computer had to scale it back just so I could see it on my widescreen! Michael (or maybe one of the other fine folks around here who has a knack for remembering these kinds of things) can tell you for certain what dimensions are ok. Do you have this same issue when you use a traditional sized picture, or is it just that one image in particular?

The actual image looks like it is messed up. I looked at it using XP and it doesn't look like. It is definitely messed up.

Don't be distracted by the less than perfect panorama. The photos used weren't a perfect match to the panorama program and the house swings up to the right. No big deal.
It works find under XP for display, ignoring the distortion in the original image.
Other images 4:3 and lower resolution don't display during playback on my system under Vista, either.

So then this is definitely an issue with Vista. Unfortunately, I don't have Vista, so I'll have to pass this one on to someone who does.

A 640x480 @ 72DPI JPG displays just fine in Vista. Can't see why anything more would be needed. Its not like we're trying to light the Mona Lisa.

Just out of curiosity, you haven't adjusted the image brightness (sun tool) to zero have you?
------------- http://www.aurorashow.com/">
|
Posted By: ghamma

I didn't adjust the sun tool. Adjusting the sun tool all the way up leaves me a white background for the drawing in playback, half way up a gray background.

To try for a clean start, I uninstalled the Aurora software, rebooted, installed 1.0.32, and retried an earlier sequence with no change in the preview visualizer display. When I made a new sequence and specified a new background image, I got a very dark gray box in playback visualizer, even with the sun set all the way up. Changing the image to the one I've posted here I got a lighter gray box.

I have now caught up with my setup and am now back to working on sequencing.
I wanted to update to the 1.0.32 version on my main editing system so I uninstalled ALL previous versions of Aurora. I deleted most of the files in the base Aurora directory.
I then installed the 1.0.32 version.
I needed to move some channels around and re-address most of my channels due to a major addressing scheme change.
I was moving 15 channels from near the bottom to positions nearer the top of the list. I did this one at a time via drag and drop. I then started to re-address channels by clicking on each one. I know there is the blulk channel editor but I have not had much success doing more than a couple of renames at a time without a LONG delay in saving or just crashing. Anyway after I readdressed a few channels Aurora encounters an error and insist on closing. It happened twice.
I knew you would ask but I went back and tested the bulk editor with the following results.
I edited the controller number for 4 channels.
I then did a save.
After repeating this a couple of times on the second save Aurora just closed without any message at all.
I will continue but saving quite often and see if this problem continues.

You are running the wrong version of the database engine. The current version is 1.0.0.11. Please uninstall Aurora from the control panel add/remove programs (if there are multiple entries you will need to uninstall all of the entries) then reinstall 1.0.32. Afterward you should have the 1.0.0.11 data engine instead of 1.0.0.1.
It sounds like you did this already, but I do know 1.0.11 is in the current package and not 1.0.0.1, so something is still hanging on in there.

sorry, I clicked on the wrong file.
I rechecked the 'AuroraData3.dll' and it shows version 1.0.0.11. Both machines.
For some reason I was looking at the Audio file.
On the second machine I also got the following error:
Aurora encountered an unexpected error and will now reset.
Debugging Information:
-2147467259: Unspecified error
Mail Processing loop
Provider.
Then the sorry the program has to close message showed up.
Does that help any?
I did uninstall all past versions from the control panel.
Just encountere a different error:

I went over to a brand new, no other software installed, VISTA machine and installed 1.0.32.
I copied my channels file over for editing.
It crashed Aurora on the VISTA box as well.

Try saving the sequence and reopening it before editing it... just making sure this sequence wasn't created with an older version that needs recompiling into the new format before rearranging channels.

I am not sure which version I first created this data file in but the first version that I have is 0.3.0.
I have opened and saved this data file in each version that I have used and I have certainly lost track of how many timest that has happened. I added the bulk of the channels back around the release of 1.0 but have never had to do bulk changes like this.
Is there anyway to clean up this file or should I just start all over again. I have had so many hardware things throw me behind for this season that one more won't make much difference now.

Just open the sequence, save it (to get the data into the new format), re-open it, and then begin your channel edits.

I have done that. Aurora still crashes while editing my data file.
I may have made a mistake of moving some of the channels around.
At least I can use the Hardware manager to turn the lights on.
Well it's getting late and I guess I'll start over tomorrow evening.

If these are old files, do any of them by chance contain circles, arches, etc. in the drawing objects? If so you can try deleting those (the circle prototype was changed in beta 0.7).

Tried something else.
On my first XP system:
I creataed a new file using the same silent audio file as before.
After creating the file I did an import of the channel info from the old file.
All that went well.
When I tried to do a bulk channel edit on 17 channels Aurora started the save then just closed with no error report.
On my VISTA system:
Created a new file using the same audio file.
When Aurora asked "Do you want to import the channel setup from another file" I answered 'Yes'.
Then the files to import from were presented and I selected my old file.
Next Aurora asked if I wanted to Import channels from file and upon saying 'Yes' I am presented with 'Import options from file'.
I selected 'Match channels by name only'
Import went fine.
Saved the newly imported file.
Opened the Bulk Channel editor and edited 7 channels and did a 'Save'
After the saving bar got about halfway across the followin message is displayed:
--------------------
Aurora Sequencer has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and dnotify you if a solution is available.
--------------------
I will now create a new file from scratch and see if I have the same bulk editor problems.

Interesting new issue.
Started a new sequence file.
Added a couple of channels, no problem.
I accidently pasted the same name in the add box and Aurora comes back and tells me to change the name. I do so then click save. The channel info box stays open and WILL NOT CLOSE, cancel or any thing else.
I had to close Aurora to make the window close.
It at least prompted me to save the file and it did so all but the last channel I was adding.
BTW I do hate that the data window does not stay on top if you switch away from Aurora.

I'm not sure what is going on here and will need to do some more testing. Could you please email me a file that gives you issues with moving the channels around?
Aside from the window on top thing, these issues seem to be unique to your Aurora installation(s). Both issues you report sound remarkably similar to issues that were already fixed in AuroraData3, which is what initially led me to wonder about the version control of that component. It might be best to move this discussion into the beta test group where we can do some reproducability testing..
